Our Story

Medical Center Pharmacy first opened their doors in 1973.  Through three different pharmacy owners, the pharmacy has maintained a consistent commitment to customer satisfaction and local community involvement.  Mike and Glo Kessler bought the store in 1984 and brought the pharmacy into the computer age.  Just before selling the store, they started automated calls to inform their customers that they may need one of their maintenance medications refilled or that their prescription is ready for pickup.  SigDay Pharmacies purchased the store in 2016 and began reinventing the retail and clinical aspects of the pharmacy while maintaining the same local feel and support for the community.  New signage, paint and flooring were the first visible signs of change, and a new Med-Sync program was the first clinical service started to improve the health of customers.  Immunizations, a Diabetes Care Club, a Free Kids Vitamin Club, Free Delivery, and Adherence Packaging are also services that Medical Center Pharmacy has initiated, with plans to continue adding services that will improve customer health and well being.

Mike was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He began his pharmacy career in 1993 as a cashier at Eckerd Drugs and worked full time as a technician and intern for nearly a decade before graduating from Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy in 2002. Within two years of graduation he started his first pharmacy in Morristown, Tennessee. McFarland Pharmacy and Medical opened their third pharmacy location in 2005 and expanded to seven medical equipment locations throughout east Tennessee by 2009. The company grew to over 120 employees and continued to diversify into long-term care pharmacy, compounding, retail pharmacy, shoes and scrubs, orthotics and full-line medical equipment. Mike sold his interest in his McFarland in 2012 in order to travel with his young family and pursue a career change. He then completed a Community Pharmacy Residency and Teaching Certificate in 2015 through Samford University. The idea of SigDay Pharmacies formed during his residency year and the first pharmacy acquisition occurred in early 2016.

Jeff came to Medical Center Pharmacy from Greenville, SC in June 2018. His parents are both nurses and encouraged his interest in the health professions. He attended the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, moved to New Hampshire, and lived there for 21 years. He was Supervising Pharmacist for The Prescription Center Pharmacies in Concord, NH. In 2006, he had the opportunity to move South to Greenville where he was the Chief Pharmacist at Barge Memorial Hospital. Jeff has worked in a variety of practice settings and is glad to be in Alabama at a Community Pharmacy. What he enjoys most is the person-to-person interaction that is found at Medical Center where the focus is on getting people well and keeping them well.
